How to Spend a Long Weekend in Paris

Paris is the perfect destination for a quick, spontaneous trip for a long weekend. Just a quick hop across the channel, the city is full of incredible eateries, steeped in fascinating history, has a vibrant nightlife, and is packed full of romance.

Planning a last-minute trip can be stressful, no matter how perfect the destination. Here are some tips to help everything go smoothly.

Navigating last-minute travel options from the UK

There are two main options for getting to Paris: the Eurostar and a flight. Choosing between the two for your Paris trip can be tricky. Getting the Eurostar is often a longer journey at roughly 2.25 hours, but you don’t need to get to the station with lots of time to spare, as you do with a flight.

Flights are quicker, and you can sometimes bag a real bargain at the last minute. You can enjoy the aerial views of France as you glide overhead, getting excited to land at Charles de Gaulle Airport for your Paris holiday.

Quick booking essentials: Accommodation, tickets & planning ahead

Although it may seem romantic to see where the wind takes you, having a sure roof over your head is essential, especially in a busy city like Paris. There are lots of different accommodation options depending on your budget.

Many of the top attractions in the city require admission tickets. Try to book them online as early as possible. Not only could this save you a few Euros, but it may let you skip a lengthy queue on the day. It is worth noting that some museums may be closed on certain days, so try to plan around that to avoid disappointment.

    Getting around: Easy transport options

One of the best things about Paris is that it is a compact, easy-to-navigate city. Wherever you stay, you will likely be within walking distance of a Metro station. Being able to hop on and off for a short Metro ride will make getting around a lot easier.

For some, walking around a city is the best way to see it in a different light, and Paris is no different. As you wander the historic streets, you may stumble across a café selling the perfect croissant or a boutique with the perfect memento.

    Staying safe and informed

As with all holidays, make sure you check the government website for any travel recommendations. Make sure your passport is in date and within the Schengen rules for expiry dates, as this may impact your being allowed entry.

Travel insurance can only cost a few pounds, but it can be lifesaving if an accident does occur. Take a little bit of time before jetting off to secure a policy that has the cover you require.
